He Māhuri Tōtara is a Christian environmental leadership development course.

The course explores the unique environmental challenges and opportunities of our world and the biblical imperative to care for creation in the context of Aotearoa New Zealand.
The experience is full of workshops, hands-on activities, outdoor adventures and building relationships with likeminded people

He Māhuri Tōtara for youth pastors and youth leaders is happening for the first time in 2024.
Hosted at A Rocha HQ in Raglan.

He Māhuri Tōtara for youth will be based at
Te Ahi Kaa in Ōtautahi.
30th  Sept – 4th October 2024
We will be sleeping marae style at Te Ahi Kaa.

Course Outline

Each course has a similar outline.
The first few day/s are based around learning, workshops and interactive activities and experiences. The following day/s are based around an outdoor adventure and the final day provides time to reflect, think and make plans about how to influence environmental change in your context.

Who Should Register?

  • Have a Christian faith background or is interested in learning more about Christianity

  • Be wanting to develop their leadership skills

  • Enjoy outdoor experiences

  • Be passionate about caring for creation

  • Willingness to learn and collaborate with others

  • A strong desire to make a positive difference in the world

Well mostly… There will be a $50 registration fee for young people who register their interest and are accepted on the course. Young people may be asked to write a short letter explaining why they would like to attend He Māhuri Tōtara in 2024.
